First and Foremost

By now you are probably wondering, "Is Kristen starting a political movement a la Ralph Nader? Is she even qualified to do such a thing?" The short answer is no, the long answer is, well, longer than that.

Your next thought might be, "Does the Smart Party have specific platforms from which to make a case against the current political system?" Well I'm glad you asked that very relevant and intelligent question. To kick off this movement here are a few of the Smart Party's thoughts on some common issues that divide the country, ruin elections, and frankly get in the way of democratic governance.

And for the record, I don't have any constituents or hopes for re-election. In other words, I don't care if you agree with any, some or all of what I say.

Refreshing, isn't it?

Abortion: The Smart Party contends that this is not a Presidential issue or even a national concern. Like many social and moral issues, we feel that this should be debated at a local level. If this issue guides your decision to vote for a particular candidate, then you are not a member of the Smart Party.

Gay Marriage: same as above

National Security: Do whatever is humanly possible to protect the American people and preserve the American way of life, preferably with a bunch of Jack Bauer's (what do you mean you don't watch 24?) running around, kicking a## and taking names.

Taxes: If you spend less than you have, then you will always be rich. Keep taxes low in order to keep spending at bay.

Role of Government in Society: Minimal. It takes 2 weeks to send mail locally in Chicago. We don't need that kind of acumen in more parts of our lives than necessary.

Healthcare: In favor of Torte Reform. Opposed to any type of meddling on behalf of the government. If it takes 2 weeks to move a piece of mail, how long would it take to get CT scan? Appropriate incentives would provide a free market solution to the current crisis.

Immigration: If you get in this country and break the law: instant deportation. If you attempt to solicit free services or monies from the government as an illegal: instant deportation. If you find a job, pay taxes, and do good for society: a judge will see your case and make a determination.

Gun Control: Hand guns should be for law enforcement officials only. Rifles should be permissible by extensive screening, licensing, training and investigation of intent.

I'm just getting started.
